Information on dealing with foot and mouth disease

Since March 2025, there have been isolated outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Hungary and Slovakia.

The viral disease, which mainly affects cattle, sheep, goats and pigs, but also wild animals, is highly contagious. According to current knowledge, transmission to humans is not known or possible. In Austria, a surveillance and restricted zone has been established in the border area with Hungary and Slovakia (source: AGES, Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety).

Measures and the current status of the zones can be found under the following link:

Please note the following points:

  • The delivery radius of the Wiesbauer mill lies well outside these zones
  • Likewise the radius of action of our sales force
  • We act on the basis of the “Guidelines for compound feed manufacturers in the event of an epidemic in animal production”
  • If your business is located in a zone, please take increased biosecurity measures. This includes above all
      • Entry bans for external persons in the stables
      • providing your own hoses for unloading the feed
      • the installation of waste garbage cans in which truck drivers can dispose of disposable gloves and disposable overshoes
